Serious Children’s Music in Concertgebouw

April 2024

Why not Beethoven for kids? What if real jazz plays for 700 four-year-olds? On May 3rd, the answer will echo through the famous walls of the Concertgebouw Amsterdam. During a children’s music show that rivals the grown-up concerts. A round of applause for Loulou & Lou and the Swinging Music Band, and their new album!

Where the great ones of the earth used to play, mostly for the big ears, there’s now a special spot for the little ones. Loulou & Lou perform their show with the Swinging Music Band. It might seem very simple, but it’s very serious. You can hear Für Elise, but also Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes in a funk version. And On The Farm in sixties rock ‘n roll. All tracks from the new album Loulou & Lou and the Swinging Music Band.

‘We want children to feel the difference in music’

Sophie van Schaik, co-founder of Loulou & Lou and a well-known bass guitarist, explains why real children’s music is so important: “We need to take children at least as seriously as adults when it comes to music. They hear and feel everything so purely. They have amazing ears to appreciate high-quality music. If we can let them hear the difference between jazz and classical… And really let them feel that difference. What makes them happy? What do they enjoy? – Isn’t that the most wonderful thing there is?”
